A few of my must-sees in Stockholm:
1. Gamla Stan, the Old Town of Stockholm, definitely worth a visit for the quaint streets, cafes and famous (also oldest) square: Stortorget.
2. Rosendahl's Garden, in Djurgården, if you're walking from the Vasa Museum, prepare for a long trek, as it's a little hard to find on foot (and about 20-30 min walk). Otherwise plan to take a bus or other transportation to get there. Once there, it's a lovely place to have lunch or tea in a beautiful little greenhouse with birds twittering around you.
3. Stockholm's City Hall, is one of Sweden's most famous buildings. It is the venue of the Nobel Prize banquet held on December 10 every year. Worthwhile to buy tickets for the tour, to see the beautiful architecture, interior decor and the Oval Room where you can be married in 5 minutes!
4. Wooden Horse Museum, is a charming shop and museum where you can learn about the history of the famous Dala horses. These carved wooden horses are an ancient tradition of Swedish folk art. Here, you can buy both new and antique Dala horses. (photos are not allowed).
5. Ice Bar, as touristy as it may be, you must (at least once in your lifetime) have a drink at an ice bar! And the Ice Hotel's Ice Bar is made from ice from the world-famous Ice hotel in Jukkasjärvi, Lapland. You are given capes to wear (not sure if they clean them regularly but ask for a clean one). And enjoy a delicious COLD cocktail!
6. Fotografiska, the photography museum is a must for any photography fan. The exhibitions are of high quality and beautifully arranged. A very fulfilling experience!
7. Soldermalm, cute little neighborhood for shopping and cafes.
8. Nobel Museum, A really beautiful laid out and comprehensive museum of all Nobel Prize winners.
9. Vasa Museum, if you have time, and are looking for something to do indoors, this maritime museum is a good idea. On display is the only 17th century ship that sank in 1628, and was salvaged and put together almost to it's original state. It's HUGE, and there's lots of history to take in.
10. Royal Palace. Worthwhile to take a look at the interior of the palace, it's ornate and beautifully furnished.
Dining:
For a romantic dinner, visit Napolyon.
For "Fika" (which means something along the lines of "going for a coffee and pastry") try Under Kastanjen in Gamlastan.
For a fancy dinner in a truly lavish setting, that's reminiscent of the Moulin Rouge or something of that sort, try Berns Asiatiska for asian fare.
Also, take a look at Naimakka , they make these amazing paracord bracelets, which are composed of seven intertwined strands, which when unwound can be used for such things as sewing thread, dental floss or fishing nets, so it's a great addition for adventurers and outdoor enthusiasts.
