Boston Ballet: Swan Lake: A Backstage Look

I am always thrilled and honored for the opportunity to photograph the Boston Ballet's productions and performances. It's an art form that I find enormously intriguing and I'm constantly in awe of the amazing technical skill and beauty of it all.

I recently went backstage to the Boston Ballet studio for costume rehearsals of the brand new production of the classic Swan Lake.

Choreographed by artistic director Mikko Nissinen, the production features costumes and sets by Robert Perdziola (whose Nutcracker debuted in 2012).

Nissinen says Boston Ballet's version is  "updated to meet the skills of today’s dancers but remains true to the intent, impact, and feeling of the original.”

Here's a peek at the rehearsals; all that dedicated practice, direction and attention to detail that goes into creating the magic that we get to see onstage!

Photographed on location at Boston Ballet Studios, 19 Clarendon Street, Boston, October 2014.
